在很早的时候，Manic Street Preachers的几位成员便已结为好友。Sean与James还是表兄弟，当Sean的父母离异后，他搬去和James同住了一段时间。他们四人都是优秀的足球运动员，还时常一起踢球。其中，Nicky最为突出，他曾经在威尔士16岁以下少年队担任队长一职，并曾入选阿森纳队。而Sean曾经是南威尔士爵士乐管弦乐队最年轻的小号手。James曾进修过戏剧。
从大学历史系毕业后，Nicky连同James、Sean和一个名叫Flicker的节奏吉他手组建了一支名为“Betty Blue”（蓝色贝蒂）的乐队。当第一首单曲“Suicide alley”（自杀小径）发表后............更多点这里
